Education institutions can set conditions on a student’s bursary. This means that the institution can set rules that a student needs to stick to in order to receive their bursary payments.

The conditions set could cover attendance or standards of behaviour. If the rules are not adhered to, the bursary payments may be stopped.

It’s up to the education institution to decide whether to continue bursary payments during absence, depending on, for example, the reason or length.

More details can be found in our 16 to 19 bursary fund guidance.
