Information for schools and academies on how their teachers’ pay grant (TPG) and teachers’ pension employer contribution grant (TPECG) will be paid.

Current year arrangements

In 2021 to 2022, most of the TPG and TPECG for schools and academies are being paid through the national funding formulae (NFF), instead of as separate grants. Separate grants continue to be paid in respect of both early years and 16 to 19 provision.

2022 to 2023 arrangements

TPG for reception to year 11

Continues to be paid through the national funding formula and is therefore part of core funding.

TPECG for reception to year 11

Continues to be paid through the national funding formulCaa and is therefore part of core funding.

TPG for early years

Funded through separate grant, with allocations in April 2022 and October 2022.

TPECG for early years

Funded through separate grant, with allocations in April 2022 and October 2022.

TPG for 16 to 19 provision in schools and academies

Separate allocation in April 2022 to cover the period up to the start of academic year 2022 to 2023.

No separate allocations will be made in academic year 2022 to 2023 because the grant is incorporated into the national funding rate for 16 to 19 programme funding and therefore is included in the 16 to 19 funding allocation.

TPECG for 16 to 19 provision in schools and academies

Funded through separate grant, with allocations in April 2022 and October 2022.

How will these grants be calculated for 2022 to 2023?

The grants will be based on the published per pupil rates set out in the Teachers’ pay grant methodology and Teachers’ pension employer contribution grant methodology.

These per pupil rates have remained the same since September 2019.

What will happen to these grants after 2022 to 2023?

We intend to continue the process of rolling this funding into core allocations and will provide more information on the Teachers’ pay grant methodology and Teachers’ pension employer contribution grant methodology pages on GOV.UK.
