Hi Kelly,
Thank you. The employer rules E59.3 tells you that the apprentice cannot be asked to contribute to "eligible" costs. However as this is a student membership fee linked to a mandatory diploma I am reading it as an "Ineligible" costs so that's why I am unsure if the employer can expect or ask the apprentice to pay for it or if there are any rules around this. Thanks for your help Kelly, the search goes on. I have asked the desk but they have given a 10 day SLA for the answer :)

Hi Simon
Please see the below response I got from the AS
Hope this helps

Thanks Cheryl
It says the apprentice is not to contribute towards eligible costs in the rules and doesn't mention not to contribute at all so think the employer I have is looking at that. I did advise them we wouldnt encourage charging learners and that in most cases the employer meets these costs.

Membership costs for mandatory qualification

Hi, Happy new year :)
As the membership cost linked to a mandatory qual for a standard is an ineligible cost. Can an employer make the apprentice pay this ?
Is there any guidance on who pays ineligible costs where memberships are concerned? This is a levy paying employer that is asking.
Thanks in advance
Cheryl
