An Employer is considering taking an apprentice on and have a training provider and apprenticeship in mind.
The Training Provider is not planning to start their next apprenticeship intake until September but the Employer would like to employ the apprentice from this month.
I have read the details on ESFA website about the Apprenticeship Agreement that needs to be in place which is clear.
My question is, can the individual be employed as an Apprentice from this month and the employer pay them an apprenticeship wage, knowing that the apprenticeship training (aka the Practical Training Period) wont start until September this year?
Would the Apprenticeship Start Date be May-22 but the Apprenticeship Training Period be Sep-22. If so, is there a maximum amount of time allowed between App Start Date and App Training Date to be compliant

I think this is down to what is reasonable and is there justification for the time difference, it would be normal for there to be a period prior to the practical period start date for the employer to engage with a training provider, set up their DAS account and complete the on boarding paperwork prior to the practical period start date or as in your case due to circumstances where the training provider has set intake start dates.
No maximum amount of time allowed between App Start Date and App Training Date in the funding rules and yes the employer may pay them an apprenticeship wage while engaged under an Apprenticeship Agreement.
