Apprenticeship Minimum Duration


We have an apprentice who has left one employer and started with another after 12 weeks and therefore have had to withdraw and then restart.

As the apprentice has restarted, do they need to complete another 12 months on programme to meet the minimum duration? Or does the first episode of learning count towards the minimum duration as this is restart?

The ILR specification definition of a restart can be interpreted as misleading ‘To identify whether the learner has restarted the learning aim’, as in reality the aim has been resumed and not restarted. The previous episode of learning counts towards the minimum duration requirement.
